Edifice of Trust Podcast

Sep 17, 2019

After forty plus years of economic expansion and growing prosperity, Chinese Present Xi Jinping finds himself in a dilemma. Economic growth has allowed China to regain much of its stature as a world power but only because the Chinese rejected communist ideals and principles to create a form of state capitalism with private companies and private property providing much of the dynamism of the economy. Creating an industrialized capitalist society was supposed to propel China from a weak, impoverished backwater incapable of the transformation to communism into an industrialized power ready to convert to communism. But conversion to communism would put China at a disadvantage to the dynamic and capitalist West. So President Xi must continue to guide China on a capitalist course in order to keep up with the West. In this episode the Edifice of Trust host, Victor Bolles, looks at China's options and how that affects American foreign policy.
