Edifice of Trust Podcast

Jul 6, 2020

In a recent video, Hoover Institute fellow Peter Robinson spoke with Wall Street Journal editor Jason Riley about his recent book, False Black Power. Mr. Riley explains that, after the Civil War, the black community made great strides by developing the human capital of the community in spite of the barriers of racism, Jim Crow laws and segregation. But in the 1960s, black leaders began to focus more on developing political capital over developing human capital and, while the effort has been largely successful, the black community has not benefitted very much from their access to government power. In this commentary, the Edifice of Trust host, Victor Bolles, looks at how the current political protests are focused on building political capital instead of human capital.
