When I saw protestors at the recent marches in reaction to the murder of George Floyd carrying signs that read, “Defund the police,” I just thought they were crazy. But when progressive governors, mayors and city council members began supporting the concept I was shocked. I think we can all agree that many police departments are in need of reform but defunding or dismantling the police will be a very risky experiment with the lives of black people on the line. In this episode we look at what happened when police reduced community involvement and also what other consequences the experiment could produce.
