The first students of the generation raised since the invention of the smart phone began entering the university in 2013. Soon after, students began requesting trigger warnings and safe spaces to protect them from bias incidents and from speakers or textbooks that made them uncomfortable. Jonathan Haidt and Greg Lukianoff analyze this problem in their new book, the Coddling of the American Mind. The problem, as discussed by the Edifice of Trust host Victor Bolles, is that this type of thinking, called safetyism by the authors, is spreading out from universities like a coronavirus.
